Google's Project Astra now available to (some) Android users
Google's AI assistant now available for consumer testing (if you have the right Android phone)

Previously Google showed off their early AI tour guide capabilities that eventually will be generally available to all consumer users as part of the Android ecosystem.
Today Google announced that this is now generally available
This soon will be available to all Gemini Advanced subscribers on Android devices, and today we’re bringing it to more people, starting with all Gemini app users on Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the rollout of a new AI experience with Gemini Live, bringing real-time visual conversations with AI to Galaxy users. The feature will begin rolling out on April 7, starting with the Galaxy S25 series available for any users free of charge.1
Through AI-powered assistance, Galaxy users can more naturally engage in conversational interactions that make everyday tasks easier. Just press and hold the side button to show Gemini Live what you see while simultaneously interacting with it in a live conversation.

Why is this important?
Consumers will use their AI assistants all the time (likely daily). A consumer will then, by course of habit, use their AI assistant when travelling. Consumers are unlikely to think, oh, must use a travel AI assistant now.... they will just use their regular assistant they are familiar with.
